Foot and Ankle Surgery

Hearing that you need foot or ankle surgery is enough to stop you in your tracks. How will you get time off work to have the procedure? Will it hurt?

The word surgery is ominous for many people. It brings about emotions of fear, anxiety, and worry. When those feelings surface, having an experienced foot and ankle surgeon at your side is beneficial and comforting.

From Minor to Major Surgeries, Dr. Gene Resiter Does it All

The bones, tendons, and ligaments in your feet are small. That means that they can easily become damaged or injured over time. Some injuries require surgery to get your feet looking and feeling their best again.

Minor surgeries are performed in our Richardson Podiatry Center office. If you had a traumatic injury or need a more advanced surgery, we frequently perform these procedures at Methodist Richardson Medical Center. No matter where the surgery takes place, one thing is certain: with Dr. David Haddad at the helm, your feet are in good hands.

Surgery is scary. So is the type of foot pain that requires you to have a surgical procedure. Here are some of the most common types of foot and ankle surgeries we perform:

Bunion Surgery

Bunions are large bumps that form on the side of your foot by your big toe. A bunion is an overgrown joint shoved out of its usual alignment. Unless bunions are addressed and treated fast, they can worsen and become very painful. When this happens, surgery might be in order.

There are a variety of surgeries that can be performed on your bunions. From moving the joint to removing the bone that’s causing the bump, there are many ways that your surgeon can relieve your foot pain. A physical exam and X-ray will help Dr. David Haddad know which surgery is right for you.

Hammertoe Surgery

Hammertoe happens when one of your toes (usually the second toe) is bent. When your toe becomes stuck and cannot move, you might need surgery to alter the tendon. In some cases, the bone might be removed so that the toe can return to its natural position.

If your hammertoe is still flexible, you probably do not need surgery. There are other treatments available. Talk to Dr. David Haddad to know what type of treatment is best for your toes.

Heel Spurs

Heel spurs are one of the leading causes of heel pain. These small bumps that form on your heel bone dig into your foot causing pain, inflammation, swelling, and redness. They make doing activities, such as walking, moving, running, or jumping difficult, and in some cases, impossible.

Heel spur surgery removes these spurs giving you fast relief from the pain.

Ankle Surgery

Sometimes a foot deformity at birth or a disease such as arthritis or diabetes leaves your ankles injured. Other times, traumatic events, such as a fracture, sprain, or impact immobilize your ankles. No matter what happened, you need surgery to realign this vital joint and get you moving again.

Dr. David Haddad performs a variety of ankle surgeries, including realigning the ankle around the deformity, attaching a fixation device, or facilitating the healing process. These types of surgeries are complex. Most of the time, they can be completed as an outpatient procedure as long as someone is available to drive the patient home.
