Diabetic Socks Make Great Gifts

Comments (0)

Why Diabetic Socks are Important in Cold WeatherThe holiday season will be here before we all know what happened. It will come with bright lights and silent nights, fancy bells that jingle and jolly ol’ Kris Kringle. This means it’s time to start thinking about gifts for loved ones. While practical presents do not have a reputation for being fun, most people would actually rather receive items that they can use. With that in mind, Richardson Podiatry Associates has a great idea for friends and relatives who are living with diabetes—diabetic socks!

You may think that hardly anyone wants socks for Christmas, but when you give socks to people with diabetes it is a thoughtful, greatly appreciated gift. That’s because diabetic socks are specifically designed without seams in order to prevent irritation and blistering. They also provide moisture control features to decrease the risk of fungal infections. In addition, these special socks offer added cushioning in pressure areas to help prevent foot ulcers.

When you are shopping for a pair, make sure that there are indeed no prominent seams, and that the cuffs are non-elastic. Also, pick some made of materials that will keep in warmth in the winter or allow feet to breathe in the summer.

At Richardson Podiatry Associates, we are looking ahead to the holiday season and hoping that it’s a wonderful time of year for you and your loved ones. We also hope that you are not experiencing foot and ankle problems, but are here for you in case you do. If you need to schedule an appointment, or if you simply would like more advice on buying socks for people with diabetes, call our office at (972) 690-5374 to contact Dr. Gene Reister today!
